Finding Support & Healing Through
Individualized Therapy in Washington State

Contact me for 15 minute consultation

Hello & Welcome!

I'm Terra Stang-Johnson a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate and Registered Nurse in the State of Washington. I practice evidence-based psychology to help you achieve your goals and lasting change. You will find that my approach to therapy is very relational and collaborative, working with you to understand your story, your perspectives, and your aspirations. Together, we will explore and learn about why you do the things you do, to gain some understanding of patterns that may be keeping you stuck.

As a registered nurse, I have witnessed the detrimental effects of living with and trying to avoid physical and emotional pain. The strain often wreaks havoc on our emotional and physical health. Thus, I utilize a “whole” person approach to therapy aimed at integrating physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual forms of well-being to develop a deeper understanding of ourselves on all these levels.

Terra Johnson, LMHCA, Lic# MC61331469, is privileged to be under the direct supervision of Douglas Chapman, MA, LMHC, LPC, ACS, MAC, CADC III. Douglas, Lic# LH00006800, If any concerns connected to Terra Johnson’s, therapeutic practice arise, her supervisor may be contacted at: Pathtowholeness@earthlink.net.   Call 360-685-7209 to schedule a free 15-minute consultation and start on a healing path.

Compassionate Evidence Based Therapy for Your Growth & Healing

I support clients' individual goals and needs by drawing from relational psychotherapy, narrative therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, attachment theory, and neurobiology perspectives. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Washington and a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from the Seattle School of Theology & Psychology. I am committed to learning and growing professionally and personally and staying current with evidence-based therapeutic practices.

Counseling is a safe place to help you gain your footing, to heal and grow into more of who you were created to be, and to develop the capacity to experience true aliveness.  I consider it a privilege to come alongside you in this sacred work. You will be welcomed and accepted, just as you are.

My Approach

My areas of focus include relationship issues, anxiety and depression, trauma & abuse, grief & loss, life transitions, parenting, as well as caregiver burnout. I am especially passionate about helping individuals in difficult relationships where they suspect emotional abuse but are unsure. This may be experienced as feeling blamed for the relationship difficulties no matter what you do and finding oneself accommodating the needs and desires of the others but realize this dynamic does not go both ways.

Life can be challenging and navigating these issues alone can be overwhelming. I'm here to provide support in a safe space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences and grow your abilities to thrive without therapy. With a personalized approach to therapy, I will work with you to identify your unique needs and develop an individualized treatment plan that is tailored to your specific goals.

My goal is to provide a compassionate and non-judgmental environment where you can feel heard, validated, and supported. Whether you're experiencing anxiety, depression, or struggling with a difficult life transition, I'm here to help you find the clarity, confidence, and strength to overcome your challenges and live a fulfilling life.

If you're ready to take the first step toward a more balance life with emotional resiliency, please don't hesitate to contact me. Let's work together to help you achieve your goals and find a path forward.

Hi, I'm Terra

Terra Stang-Johnson

Founder & Director, Threshold Counseling
LMHCA & Registered Nurse

Hi, I'm Terra. I grew up on a small 5-acre farm in Washington State. Meandering in fields of tall summer grass and exploring the lush green and often muddy forests was, and continues to be, the place I feel most at home. Having parents from the mid-west I was raised with core values of kindness, generosity, and a strong work ethic which led me into a career as a registered nurse. I enjoyed my years as a nurse working in Home Health, PACU, Oncology, and School Nursing. I learned much about life, love, and the grit it takes to face and walk through(sometimes crawl through) life’s harshest afflictions.

I have seen firsthand how unresolved emotional pain ravages the body, mind, spirit and soul stripping away one’s quality of life, no matter how obvious or inconspicuous the harms. Ultimately, life brought pain and suffering to my door. I realized I must allow myself to become the recipient of care instead of the giver. I have been helped immeasurably through my own therapeutic pilgrimage with a trained and trusted guide and ultimately found my calling as a therapist.

I am passionate about helping adults in all stages of life move from merely surviving to thriving, as they engage in the process of becoming a fuller version of themselves and experience healing from wounds and shame, they didn’t know was impacting them.

I am committed to life-long learning and playing. I take frequent walks with my standard poodle (Ella) and enjoy listening to audio books about pretty much anything related to psychology, soul development, spirituality, and relationships. I also enjoy immersing myself in the ever-frustrating but oh-so-satisfying endeavor of assembling a Blue Kazoo puzzle and teaching myself to play the cello (long way to go on that goal!) But of all these, my most favorite time spent is with my kids, family, and friends of old and new, sharing meals, playing games, and diving into deep, I/Thou conversation over a cup of espresso or glass of red wine . . . preferably on or near water :)

Let's talk.
